| Summary |
The draft policy provides an overview of the underpinning issues for an effective and efficient National IT Policy for Uganda. Specifically the policy has a whole section on Information Technology Education which commits the Government of Uganda through the Ministry of Education and Sports to ensure IT Education in all aspects of Educational processes. Key Policy Objectives include the following; To develop a pool of IT engineers, scientists, technicians and software developers. To increase the availability of IT Educated and trained personnel To provide IT oriented attractive career opportunities. To develop requisite skills in various aspects of Education in relation to IT Proposed Policy Strategies among others include; 1. The establishment of National Educational Intranet “edunet” to enable information sharing among educational institutions of electronic libraries, teaching and research materials as well as the sharing of best practice. 2. Organise teacher training on a top-priority basis to meet the growing demand for qualified teachers in IT and for upgrading their skills regularly. 3. Making the use of IT mandatory at all levels of educational Institutions through adequate financial provision for tools and resources. 4. Developing relevant IT curricula for the primary, secondary and tertiary institutions. 5. Establish facilities for electronic distance learning networks and ensure effective Internet connectivity which will provide opportunities for educationally disadvantaged areas to leapfrog into the modern era. |
